Julian has been working in photography for thirteen years, almost exclusively in black and white. Over this period one of his main preoccupations has been that of exploring the photographic Self-Portrait. The past 3 years have been dedicated to photographing a collection of life-casts made of himself.

As well as his studio-based self-portrait work Julian also practices his belief that a photographer should always be alert to the visual possibilities of the world around him and be constantly open to new ways of seeing. Consequently he does not restrict himself to particular situations or subjects, and always has a camera with him.

Working mainly for exhibition and publication, Julian also carries out occasional commissions, projects and workshops.
