Brain’s Fairy Flight Aid

Whilst studying for a degree in Design Crafts at Hereford College of Art and Design, Samantha became inspired by Victorian gadgetry and invention. She was able to utilize these influences to create mechanical illusions and her constructions are intended to look as if they really might work.

Samantha tries to express a sense of fantasy as well as wit and humour within her work. Her aim is to create an imaginary world for the customer to enter, a nostalgic glimpse of childhood fantasies. Fairies and machine-like contraptions form an unlikely but intriguing combination.

Materials span from organic matter, paper clay and hand dyed leather to sheet metal and wire. Samantha incorporates mainly small metal working, needlework and fabrication skills. Each detail is hand stitched to ensure that the desired outcome is achieved.
