Ravensthorpe in
Colour
Artists Lesley Fallais and Jane Revitt have been
commissioned by Loca on behalf of Kirklees Council to develop
a series of artworks for a new Library, Information and
Children’s Centre in Ravensthorpe. This new community
building, opening in autumn 2010, will be enhanced by unique
artworks developed in partnership with local people.
Residents of all ages are being invited to take part in
Ravensthorpe In Colour. The artists have been out
and about meeting people and groups encouraging them to
observe, record, collect and name colours found in
Ravensthorpe.
Lesley and Jane will design artworks for the building in
response to ideas developed through their work with people
from Ravensthorpe. Smaller pieces of artwork made by
community groups during the project will also be displayed in
the new LICC.
See our separate
web page to keep in touch with the project: Ravensthorpe in Colour.

Denby Dale Pie
Sculpture Project
60 young
people from three local schools in Denby Dale have been working
with artist Mike Disley to carve stone paving blocks for a
sculpture and landscape scheme in the village centre. The
scheme will create a distinctive new landmark on the traffic
island at the junction of Wakefield Road and Cumberworth Road.
Inspired by Denby Dale’s famous pies, the sculpture will be
accompanied by new planting and lighting, and will be surrounded
by paving which will have the young people’s carved triangles
set into it.
Mike
will be working on the sculpture at Marshalls quarry just down
the road at Shepley, and he hopes to invite some of the young
people to see the sculpture taking shape.
The sculpture
project is part of a wider programme of village centre
improvements being undertaken with funding from Kirklees
Council’s regeneration budget. It is being managed by Loca, in
partnership with the Regeneration Development Service. |
